The method involves receiving (E100) an activation control for a motor reducer, and activating (E110) the motor reducer in a direction as a consequence of the activation control. A nature of activation is stored (E120). Data concerning position of an actuator unit such as rotor, during a transitional stage (E125) is collected (E140). The collected data is analyzed (E150), and the result of analysis is utilized (E160) so as to determine the nature of direction of activation of the motor reducer. An independent claim is also included for an electromechanical actuator.
