The method involves providing a gate page (15) at a boundary region in a guide slot of a guide unit of a roll gate (1) during opening or closing of the roll gate. The roll gate is closed in final position. Spatial position of a paragraph of the gate page is determined. Measured Value of a reference channel from a measuring instrument (25) is transmitted to a defined virtual reference layer. Switching signals are transmitted to a control unit (12) of the roll gate to control a drive (11) of the roll gate based on analysis of derivation of the signals. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a drive of a roll gate.
