The invention relates to a lock cylinder key system comprising a cylinder housing (1) in which a cylinder core (3) is rotatably mounted, which cylinder core has a keyway accommodating a key that can be inserted into the keyway, the cylinder core (3) and the cylinder housing (1) having tumblers which cooperate. According to the invention, a magnet (4) is provided in the key (2) close to the back of the key and at a right angle to the cylinder axis. A magnet (5) is provided in the cylinder core (3) and can be displaced under the influence of the magnetic force of the magnet (4) arranged in the key (2), and can be brought into engagement with a spring-loaded ball-pin unit (6, 7, 8). The ball (6) of said unit engages in a locking shaft groove (9) of the cylinder housing (1) when there is no key (2) in the keyway while the magnet (4) present in the key (2) can withdraw the magnet (5) in the cylinder core (3) from the ball-pin unit (6, 7, 8), thereby disengaging it, when the key (2) is in the keyway.
