The invention relates firstly to an apparatus (20) and secondly to a method (31) for monitoring the functionality of a heatable switch (2) in a rail network. The apparatus (20) has an evaluation unit (22) and a sensor arrangement (28), which comprises a first temperature sensor (26a), which rests in the region of a first heating element (4a) on one of the rails of the switch (2), in particular a stock rail (6, 8), and a second temperature sensor (26b), which rests in the region of a second heating element (4b) on one of the rails of the switch (2), in particular the same rail (6, 8, 10, 12).
