A skirt element according to the invention includes a skirt member intended to rest on an exterior roof surface, an adhesive layer on the interior side of the skirt member, and a cover layer covering the adhesive layer in a state of delivery of the skirt element. In the state of delivery of the skirt element, a part of the cover layer is visible from the exterior side. In some embodiments the cover layer is folded and arranged with the fold line extending on the interior side of the skirt member substantially in parallel with the second edge. According to a method of installation, the skirt element is arranged with skirt member adjacent the exterior roof surface before pulling the cover layer visible from the exterior side of the skirt member in a state of delivery off the skirt element.
