LOCKING SYSTEM FOR FOLDABLE LADDER
Foldable ladder (200;300)s and related methods for use within a pit (127) of an elevator system (101) include a first upright (202;302), a second upright (204;304), and a plurality of rungs (206;306) pivotally mounted to each of the first upright (202;302) and the second upright (204;304). A locking mechanism (208;308) has a first segment (212;312) pivotally attached to the first upright (202;302) and a second segment (214;314) pivotally attached to the second upright (204;304), and the two segments (212,214;312,314) are pivotally connected. A locking device (318;418) is located on an upright (202,204;302,304) and operably connected to a segment (212,214;312,314). The locking device (318;418) includes a first catch (426) and a second catch (428), a pin (430;530) moveable to engage with the first catch (426) in a first position and moveable to engage in a second position. A biasing mechanism (432;532) applies a force to the pin (430;530) to engage the pin (430;530) with a catch (426,428). An operating device (434;534) is operable to apply opposing force against the biasing mechanism (432;532) to disengage the pin (430;530) from the catch (426,428).
