The invention relates to a self-disinfecting drain trap assembly (01) for installing in a wastewater line; comprising a drain trap (02), having a first pipe segment (03) designed as a downpipe, wherein the first pipe segment (03) has a drain connection (04) for the inflow of wastewater at an inlet end, and having a second pipe segment (05), which adjoins the first pipe segment (03) and leads away the wastewater. The assembly is characterized in that the assembly has a nebulizer (10) for producing a disinfecting active-substance mist and a connecting line (12) arranged between the nebulizer (10) and the first pipe segment (03) for feeding the active-substance mist into the drain trap (02). The second pipe segment (05) can be closed by an odor-trapping blocking means (07), which serves as a spatial boundary for the active-substance mist that can be fed into the drain trap (02). The invention further relates to a method for operating such a drain trap assembly (01).
