The present invention relates to the laying of drainage pipes, in particular concrete drainage pipes comprising a string of connected pipe sections. A pipe pushing tool (26,126) is provided to assist with jointing adjacent sections of pipe (2,12). The tool (26,126) is attachable to a quick hitch coupling, for example as on the arm of an excavator, and has a pair of adjustable beams (36,38,136,138) releasably secured to a main beam (34,134). Each adjustable beam (36,38,136,138) can be secured to the main beam in more than one position to thereby adjust the width of the tool (26,126).
