    A coated component (100), along with methods of its formation, is provided. The coated component (100) includes a substrate (102) having a surface (103) with a plurality of cavities (101) defined therein, a bond coating (104) including a silicon material on the surface (103) of the substrate (102) within the cavities (101), and an environmental barrier coating (108) over the surface (103) of the substrate (102) and encasing the bond coating (104) within the cavities (101) such that the bond coating (104), when melted, is contained within the cavities (101). Such a coated component (100) may be, in one embodiment, a turbine (28) component (100), such as a CMC component (100) for use in a hot gas path (78) of a gas turbine (28) engine.
