The invention relates to a method for producing a porous material for use as a catalyst material. The method comprises pressing and sintering a mixture that comprises an oxide and nanoparticles, in order to produce a porous ceramic template, wherein the oxide comprises a first substance and the nanoparticles comprise a second substance. The method also involves implementing a chemical vapor deposition process by supplying a hydrogenous gas at a temperature that is higher than a melting point of the first substance and lower than a melting point of the second substance.
