A sliding window (2) comprises a fixed frame (4), an operable sash (3a, 3b), a first device (20) for locking in an ajar position, a motor drive device (5) for sliding the operable sash (3a) and a second device (21) for locking in a closed position. The drive device (5) comprises a drive arm (18), connected to the operable sash (3a) and to a flexible element (9) and engages with a movable arm of the first locking device. The movable arm holds the drive arm (18) between the ajar and closed positions, following passage beyond the ajar position, upon movement of the operable sash from an open position. A device for releasing the movable arm is activated following locking of the operable sash in the closed position.
