The invention relates to a panel-type construction element (1), in particular a flooring panel and to a method for producing same. The lateral edges (7, 8) of the panel-type construction element (1) are designed to be connected to additional construction elements (1) in order to cover a surface in a room. The construction element (1) has a base panel (2) and, on the upper face, a wear layer (3). The base panel (2) is made of an engineered wood product and/or a plant product and of magnesium oxide (MaO). The fraction of the engineered wood product and/or the plant product is at least 65 % and the fraction of magnesium oxide is at least 5 %. The base panel (2) and the wear layer (3) are pressed together at high-temperatures and under pressure.
