The invention concerns a method for producing fire protection for an element, in particular an elongate element such as a cable raceway, piping or a ventilation duct leading into premises or passing through partitions, characterised in that it comprises an assembly, around the element, of protection means constituted of pads (10) that are generally rectangular or square in shape, are provided with a cover (20) having two opposing faces (12) connected by edges (13), and are provided with thermally insulating inner padding for which the pads, comprising pads with a basic width and pads with double the width of the basic width, are arranged around the element by mixing pads with a basic width and pads with the double width. The pads are such that the pad cover is provided with two large opposing fabric faces (12) connected together on three sides by an edge (13) made with one or more strips of fabric and is provided with an opening on a fourth edge and a closing flap (11) extending one of the large faces in order to close the opening and form a fourth edge, the opening allowing the pad to be filled with the padding that comprises a thermally insulating fire protection material.
