Disclosed herein is a ceramic matrix composite airfoil (66) comprising a triple bifurcated ply (200) that defines a suction side (84), an outer platform (80), a pressure side (82) and an inner platform (78) of the airfoil (66), wherein the triple bifurcated ply (200) comprises at least one ply that comprises a consolidated region (220), wherein the consolidated region (220) is split into two bifurcated regions (202, 204, 206, 208, 210, 212) in three locations (302, 304, 306) in three different directions.
