A tooling assembly (10) for perforating a fibrous preform (14) comprises a tooling fixture (12) comprising a plurality of receiving holes (24), and a spiked array (16) comprising a plate (20) and a plurality of metallic spikes (18) projecting away from the plate (20) and toward the tooling fixture (12), each of the plurality of metallic spikes (18) corresponding to and extending towards one of the plurality of receiving holes (24). The spiked array (16) is engageable with the tooling fixture (12) such that the plurality of spikes (18) extend at least partially into respective ones of the plurality of receiving holes (24).
