An article (100) according to an exemplary embodiment of this disclosure includes a substrate (104) and a bond coat (102) disposed on the substrate (104). The bond coat (102) includes a matrix (106). The matrix (106) includes regions of β-cristobalite (200). The article (100) also includes a plurality of gettering particles (108) disposed in the matrix (106), a plurality of diffusive particles (110) disposed in the matrix (106), and an additive operable to stabilize the regions of β-cristobalite (200) at ambient temperatures dispersed in the matrix (106). An article (100) and a method of coating an article (100) are also disclosed.
