A compound material, especially a recyclable composite material which consists of at least two material layers bonded by a layer of adhesive. For easy and clean separation of the two material layers, the adhesive consists of a material that gives off and/or generates water vapor when heated to more than 100° C., thereby separating the composite into its constituents.
