USE OF MINERAL WASTE IN THE PRODUCTION OF CERAMICS
The invention concerns the use of fly ash in the preparation of ceramic articles. The invention provides a method for the manufacture of ceramic articles, wherein the weight ratio of fly ash to clay in the ceramic body mixture is at least 70/30. The invention further concerns the ceramic articles obtained by the method. The ceramic articles according to the invention have excellent properties in terms of drying shrinkage, firing shrinkage, density, water absorption and frost resistance, they do not exhibit efflorescence and are suitable to be subjected to glazing. Use of boric acid to reduce the firing temperature of a glaze coating composition comprising at least 70 wt% fly ash is also part of the invention.
