METHODS OF OBTAINING ELECTRODES COMPRISING A MAX-PHASE-CONTAINING COMPOSITE AND USES THEREOF
The present invention provides methods for obtaining MAX-phase and MXene-containing composite electrodes for enhancing the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) during the electrolysis process. The methods involve producing a MAX-phase-containing composite material to be used in the production of an electrode. The MAX-phase-containing composite material gradually etches in an alkaline or acidic electrolyte during the electrolysis process, forming MXene-containing composite material with an enhanced HER performance. The formation of MXene layers can be further facilitated by HER. The overall performance of the HER electrode is thus continuously improved with time. The invention offers a practical and effective solution for improving the efficiency and durability of HER electrodes in industrial electrolysers.
