The invention relates to a spacer (1) for insulating glass units (100), comprising - a polymer hollow profile (2) which extends in the longitudinal direction (X) and has: a first side wall (3.1) and a second side wall (3.2) arranged in parallel therewith; a glazing interior wall (4) which extends in the transverse direction (Y) between the side walls (3.1, 3.2) and interconnects them; an outer wall (5) which is arranged at least partially in parallel with the glazing interior wall (4) and perpendicularly to the side walls (3.1, 3.2) and interconnects the side walls (3.1, 3.2); and a cavity (7) which is surrounded by the side walls (3.1, 3.2), the glazing interior wall (4) and the outer wall (5), and comprising - a plurality of continuous fibres (11), wherein each continuous fibre (11) has, along its extension, a fibre length which corresponds to a dimension of the polymer hollow profile (2) along the extension of the continuous fibre. Furthermore, the continuous fibres (11) are embedded in a polymer carrier (12), wherein a polymer carrier (12) having continuous fibres (11) is arranged on a surface (11) of the glazing interior wall (4) and/or a surface (10) of the outer wall (5) and/or a surface (10) of the first side wall (3.1) and/or a surface (10) of the second side wall (3.2).
