The invention relates to the field of materials science and relates to a method for producing calcium carbonate materials or materials containing calcium carbonate, as can be used, for example, in the building industry as biogenic building and construction materials. The aim of the present invention is to provide a method in which calcium carbonate materials are produced in a sustainable manner and, in particular, CO2 is consumed, for example from the environment. The problem is solved using a method in which, in order to produce calcium carbonate in a microbiologically-induced manner, at least one calcium material or non-calcium material having pores is brought into contact with at least cyanobacteria in an environment containing carbon dioxide and water or water vapour, wherein, at least when only non-calcium material having at least the cyanobacteria is present, calcium material or material containing calcium is also introduced, and furthermore at least light is introduced in order to photosynthesise the cyanobacteria, and, after the calcium carbonate is produced in a microbiologically-induced manner, the produced calcium carbonate material is completed.
