An inlet former 1 comprises a longitudinal slot 6 that lies, in use, in a surface to be drained and a conduit via which liquid can drain from the surface through the former 1. The former 1 also comprises one or more transverse openings into which a material in which the former 1 is embedded, in use, can extend from one or both sides of the former 1 to form a structural bridge member.
