Apparatus and method for constructing a road
The apparatus comprises a number of spaced apart elongate planks, for example wooden or plastic, wherein adjacent planks are interconnected by coupling joining members 3, which preferably restrict relative movement between planks, which are adapted to transfer the load on one plank to at least one other of the planks. The coupling members may comprise a bracket, holding member, configured to receive at least two planks, for example by having either closed pockets or open recesses into which the planks are located. Also claimed is a method of forming a road using the apparatus. The method preferably comprises placing a geotextile layer under the planks and burying some of the planks under ballast. A portion of the end planks may be used to securely anchor the road to the ground. In use grass and plants may pass through the spaces between the planks because the connectors preferably take up less than half of the surface of the road.
