Access control apparatus for a bicycle, bicycle sharing system, and method for operating bicycle sharing system
An access control apparatus 20 for a bicycle (100, figure 1) for use in a bicycle sharing system is disclosed. The access control apparatus 20 is adapted to be mounted to a bicycle and comprises a retaining device 22 for retaining a key (200, figure 3) for unlocking a bicycle lock such that the key (200) cannot be used to unlock a bicycle lock. A control device within the apparatus causes the retaining device 22 to release the key (200) in response to an authorisation signal. The authorization signal may be input by a user or received over a network from a remote management system. The apparatus may be incorporated into a handlebar stem of the bicycle.
