An envelope or bag for use with a vacuum cleaner comprises a flexible material arranged to provide a fluid path there-through, a coupling arranged to couple or the envelope to a structural member (1760, fig 17) for in use maintaining the fluid path open by supporting the envelope against external pressure, wherein the envelope is arranged in use to isolate, from the fluid path, the structural member (1760, fig 17) that supports the envelope. The envelope may comprise an impermeable material with a single inlet 16 and a single outlet 18 and a flow diverter 40. The coupling is preferably a conduit and/or channel and/or cavity and/or seam and/or support fixture into which the structural member (1760, fig 17) is inserted. The structural member (1760, fig 17) may be a rod that extends the length of the envelope, preferably in the form of a helix.
