Wheel assist drive with traction control system and method
A wheel-assist drive system 60 with traction control and a corresponding method are provided for use on a machine, such as a motor grader (see Figures 1 & 2). The wheel assist drive system 60 includes: a freewheeling valve 70 for providing all-wheel drive; a flow divider valve 72 for providing traction control; and a bypass valve 104 for selectively bypassing the flow divider valve 72. Operation of the bypass valve 104 is based on the status of the free-wheeling valve 70 to reduce heat generation and losses attributable to hydraulic fluid flow through the flow divider valve 72.
