A cable protector 20 is adapted for use with an interlocking modular flooring system where tiles are used to construct a planar structure that can be used as a temporary floor, walkway or roadway for vehicular access etc. The cable protector includes a base part 22 and one or more ramp parts 26, 28. A lid part 24 is removable and covers one or more channels 34 in the base part. The protector has a coupling flange for example, each ramp part may have a flange 52, 54 that is sized and shaped to be a received in a space (14, Fig 2) between an adjacent pair of connected tiles to fixedly secure the cable protector to the planar structure. The flanges may have gaps (56, Fig 5) for male interlocking parts (6, Fig 1) of the floor tiles. The ramp parts are connected to the base part by a protrusion 46 on one part going into a groove or channel (48, Fig 4) on the other.
