Ground level illumination system
A ground level illumination system comprising: a body, a light source 12, optics 9 and top 2 blocks. The body defines a ground level and the light source is positioned in the body below ground 8 level. The optics block transmits light from the source to an upper surface of the optics block which is in optical contact with a lower surface of the top block. The top block transmits light towards the exterior of the device. The interface between the optics and top blocks is shaped such that light from the source rises at a shallow angle relative to the ground level. The top block includes a window 4 above ground level through which light emerges to the exterior. The window is shaped such that the beam 16 descends at a shallow angle towards the ground level. The top block may be integral with the body and its window has the shape of part of a toroidal lens. The device may include a solar cell.
