The hinge has a first leaf 1, which may be attached to a window or door frame; a second leaf 2, which may be attached to the sash; a pivot rod 3, fixed to the first leaf, about which the second leaf may rotate; an adjustment plate 6 with a fastening 8; and at least one friction plate 4, mounted on the axis between the two leafs; the leafs, pivot and adjustment plate may be metal. The pivot rod and first leaf may be integrated or be separate and be attached together. The fastening may be two screws 26 which pass through axially offset holes in the adjustment plate and into a threaded hole in the pivot. Preferably, there is more than one friction plate, in the form of a plastic disc, having plastic or metal spacers 5 in-between them; they may also be placed between the second leaf and the adjustment plate.
