A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A heat recovery system recovering heat from waste water comprises a waste water receptacle 4 receiving waste water. The receptacle is connected to a waste water drainage pipe (34, fig 3) and functions as a heat exchanger comprising an input port connected to mains conduit for incoming (fresh) water, and an output port for removing water from the exchanger that has been heated. At least two conduits extends between the input and output ports whereby heat energy from the waste water is transferred to the incoming water. The conduits have a cumulative / combined cross sectional area equal to or greater than the mains conduit and having a greater heat exchange surface area than the mains conduit. The receptacle may be a bath, sink or shower tray and incoming water is pre-heated before delivery to a shower head 8. The receptacle may comprise a plurality of parallel and adjoining welded pipes (20, fig 2) having a non-circular cross-section, i.e. flattened, oval, or v-shaped cross section (fig 9) whereby an upper flat sheet (42) is connected to a lower undulating sheet (44). A thermostat may monitor temperature of the preheated water and regulate / reduce power to an electric heater 10.
