A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Elevatable building
An elevatable building including a foundation 18 set into a ground level surface; a house assembled on a platform 15 which is raised and lowered by a lifting mechanism 19 having at least one vertical shaft 20 engageable with a motor 24; and an adaptable connection for utility services (29, 30, Fig. 11, 12) capable of adapting to the height of the platform, enabling the utilities to remain connected while the platform is raised. The motor may be engageable via at least one driveshaft 23 to the vertical shaft. Preferably there are a plurality of the vertical shafts which may be threaded and cause the platform to rise when they rotate. Each of the threaded vertical shafts may be located adjacent a guide post 16 at the corners of the building. The guide posts extend vertically from the foundation and may be telescopic and received by a sleeve 22 on the platform. The adaptable connection may include a flexible coiled pipes, telescopic column or cladding and be for potable and waste water piping, and electrical and communications cabling.
