A diverter valve 1 for a waste pipe comprises a T shaped injection moulded component which fits into a waste down pipe with the branch end of the T fitting 21 leading to a filter unit 20. A central membrane 9 divides the pipe into an upper channel 3 and a lower channel 4. The filtered water may be stored in a water butt or other receptacle (not shown). Excess water is channelled back to the waste pipe via the lower channel 4. The filter section may be unclipped from the diverter, and the filter removed for cleaning. Recovered water may be used to save potable domestic water.
