Self raising gate bottom
A field gate, or the like, where the gate comprising a pair of leaves. The lower (vertically movable) of the two leaves (2) is connected, via uprights (11) to two wire cables 3, 6 that are located around a number of pulleys 9, 13 located in the upper (fixed) section 10 of the gate. The whole of the gate, i.e. the fixed and movable sections pivots about a vertical gate post 4, 12. One end of each cable is fixed to the gate post (Fig 1, 1) via adjusters, whilst the other is fixed to the lower movable leaf. As the gate opens it moves through an arc (Figs 1 3inc), tensioning the cable and causing the cable to lift the movable lower portion 2 vertically upward. The more the gate is pushed open the greater the lift. Releasing the gate allows the lower leaf to fall, under gravity and thus the gate closes. The gate is intended for use on rutted, uneven or sloping ground such as agricultural land and may be adjusted to provide some clearance under it to allow passage over such ground. When closed the clearance under the gate is minimal thereby preventing animals from moving under the gate.
