A water usage indicator system 100 for use with a water supply system 102 arranged to supply water to a property 104. The water usage indicator system 100 comprises at least one detection unit 106 arranged to be coupled to the water supply system. The detection unit comprises a detection device 108 arranged to detect water flow through a detection point within the water supply system and a transmitter 112 in communication with the detection device. The transmitter is arranged to transmit a water usage signal over a mobile telephone network in response to water flow detected by the detection device. Also disclosed is a water supply system (202, figure 2) arranged to supply water to a property, the water supply system comprises a fire sprinkler supply branch (206, figure 2); a general usage branch (204, figure 2); and a detection unit.
