A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A manhole cover comprises two panels 11, 12 and means for attaching the panels 11, 12 to each other, preferably by a hinged joint 13. The panels are movable relative to each other to vary the area covered by the device, with the movement being actuated by means attachable to a first panel 11, preferably provided by a handle 14. Each panel may comprise multiple stabilising flanges (15, fig. 5) towards its periphery which cooperate with the boundary of a hole to be covered. A handle 14 with two limbs 25, 26 may be fixed at one limb 25 to the first panel 11, with its other limb 26 extending through an aperture 14 in the second panel 12 and having a stopper 30 at its distal end. Multiple covers may be used in parallel for large holes and the attachment means may comprise rails and sliders.
