A hydraulic hybrid drive comprises a combustion engine 3 which drives, via shaft 6, hydraulic pumps 1, 2 that supply hydraulic fluid to hydraulic consumers 4. A speed regulator 22 controls the engine 3 so as to reduce fuel supply when recuperated hydraulic power is generated. The recuperated hydraulic power is produced when, for example, a boom of an excavator is lowered thereby forcing hydraulic fluid from hydraulic consumers 4, via connector line 12, to recuperation motor PRB. The recuperation motor PRB outputs a recuperation torque to the shaft 6 which is converted to recuperation power by multiplying the torque by a speed of the shaft 6. An electronic recuperation control device 18 controls the speed regulator 22 which reduces fuel supply so soon as the recuperated power is detected at the recuperation motor PRB and before overspeed occurs at the engine 3. Reference is also made to an electronic device and to a hydraulic hybrid drive.
