Temperature stable lead-free piezoelectric/electrostrictive materials with enhanced fatigue resistance
A lead-free piezoelectric and/or electrostrictive ceramic material is disclosed which has the general formula: (1-x) K0.5Bi0.5TiO3 — x[Bi(RE)Fe(Ti)03]; wherein RE = non-radioactive rare earth elements as defined by IUPAC and wherein 0.01 < x < 0.25. The rare earth element may be La, Nd, Pr or Sm. Also disclosed is a multi-stack of two or more elements comprising the ceramic material; a method of forming the ceramic material and a method of forming the multi-stack.
