Improved screwed fastening system for railway rails
A rail fastening system for fastening a railway rail to a foundation using a clip (2B fig 6A) secured by a screwbolt 30 in which rotation of the screwbolt in one direction causes translational movement of the clip in one direction relative to the screwbolt and rotation in the other direction causes translational movement of the clip in the opposite direction relative to the screwbolt. A device 1000 for use in such a system comprises a base 1010, clip contact surfaces 1014 defining a clip receiving region 1015 and a hole 1016 with a centre line CL22 offset from a clip receiving region centre line CL21. The clip is asymmetric about a line parallel to a driving direction of the clip. The screwbolt comprises a shank with a screw threaded lower portion (31 fig 4B), a head (32 fig 4B) and a flange portion comprising a central section 351, upper and lower end sections 352A, 352B and upper and lower intermediate section 353A, 353B. The upper and lower intermediate and central sections define a recess for receiving the clip. The clip and screwbolt have inter-engaging driving portions (220A, 330A fig 8B) enabling movement of the clip when the screwbolt rotates.
