A shutter assembly comprising a plurality of shutter panels 2 arranged side-by side, each shutter panel has a respective plurality of louvers 4 and a respective operable tilt mechanism (10, fig.3) configured to adjust the tilt angle louvers. A single common control shaft 20 operates the tilt mechanisms. The control shaft is configured to drive simultaneously the respective tilt mechanisms of all of the plurality of shutter panels. The tilt mechanism of at least one shutter panel can be disengaged to allow independent operation of the shutter panel. Selective dis-engagement may be provided by clutches or by disconnecting a drive mechanism between an actuator 28 driven by the control shaft and a linear drive 32 of the tilt mechanism. The tilt mechanism may include rack and pinion drive. Coupling notch 34 and protrusion 36 allow disconnection of drive when the shutter is pivoted to an open position.
