A flooring system comprises a modular floor panel 1, a beam 2 and a connection 3 between the beam and panel. The beam and panel may act compositely when connected together. The panel may comprise first and second skins 4, 6 separated by an insulating core 5, or may comprise a bottom skin, a core and a covering, with the covering being fitted after the panel is connected to the beam. The skins and the beam may be formed from glass reinforced plastic (GRP). The connection may be in the form of a glue that can transfer shear stresses between the beam and the panel, and the glue may not creep under load. The beam 2 may comprise a top part 7 and a bottom part 8, and the bottom part may be larger than the top part.
