A method of installing a door securing assembly comprising drilling crossing face and edge bores, providing and inserting into the door a door fitting 10 of equal or greater thickness to the door and having a cylindrical body 12 with an aperture 16 through its length corresponding to the aperture in a door fastener (e.g. the latch) for receiving the spindle, an aperture for receiving a screw, inserting a fastener assembly into the edge bore, passing the spindle through the aperture, mounting parts of an operating assembly (handle) on either side of the door and securing to the door via screws. Preferably the door fitting also has an aperture 14 for receiving the fastener assembly and aligning its spindle hole with the first aperture 16. The door fitting may be in two parts and may be arranged in two different orientations (Fig 4/5). The fitting being equal to or slightly wider than the door allows the door operating assembly to be clamped against the fitting rather than the door panel, providing additional strengthening.
