A fixation device 100, preferably a screw pile, having an elongate portion 102 rotatable about a longitudinal axis 104 and at least one helical flight 132 located between a first end region 106 and a second end region 110. The helical flight 132 includes at least one surface 142, which is preferably substantially concave, extending from a surface of the flight 132 that resists an applied lateral load. The surface 142 may be provided on a flange portion 138 that is preferably oriented substantially parallel with respect to the longitudinal axis 104 and may extend substantially perpendicular from the surface of the flight 132. The flange portion 138 may comprise a pair of opposed flange portions 138 extending from upper and lower surfaces of an end region of a web portion 134 of the flight 132. There is also a method of installing the fixation device 100.
