A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A builders trestle comprises a pair of upright supports connected by a crossbar upon which boards can be supported to make a platform. At least one of the upright supports has an upward extension 26a, 26b above the crossbar to which rails can be attached to form a safety barrier. At least part of the extension is hingedly attached to the trestle by a recessed hinge 30 comprising a pair of hinge pins 44a, 44b connected by an intermediate link 78 such that it is movable between upright and folded positions. A latch mechanism or a slidable stabiliser sleeve 70 may hold the extension in the upright position. The intermediate link may extend across opposed curved ends 66a, 66b of the movable part and an adjacent part of the upward extension. The curved ends may be provided with interengaged gear teeth or knurling. The stabiliser may be provided with internal clearances 80 to allow it to slide over any projecting part of the gear teeth or knurling. The trestle may comprise a pair of upward extensions.
