Driver anti-blinding system
A system adapted to prevent a driver or passenger (13, fig.3) of a vehicle (10) from glare of oncoming light (16, fig.4), said system comprising a windscreen 1 controllably dimmable over selective areas 20, and including one or more cameras or sensors (11,12,14, fig.3) mounted on the vehicle adapted to provide an output signal to controller 19, said controller adapted to determine a windscreen area 20 to be dimmed based on said output signal, and control said dimming based on the selected area. The system may comprise an externally pointing camera (12) to detect intensity and/or distribution of oncoming light hitting the front windscreen. An internally facing camera 11 may detect intensity and/or distribution of light incident inside the vehicle, on the occupants head or face, or to detect the position of the occupants head, face or eyes. The windscreen may comprise a chromatic or translucent LCD layer (figure 1b), where the degree of dimming can be varied within subdivisions of the selected area. The system may further use radar sensor (14, fig.3) output signals to identify oncoming vehicles and determine extent to which its headlights might glare the occupant.
