A motor vehicle door anti-rattle mechanism
A motor vehicle door anti-rattle mechanism 10, is disclosed comprising male 20 that includes an expandable member 29 of elastically compressible material selectively engagable within a female part 30 having a recess 31. In a non-actuated state the male part is inserted into the recess of the female part with a clearance gap during closure of the door; upon actuation material 29 is axially compressed, e.g. by piston head 27, causing radial expansion to engage a surface of recess 31 (fig.3c) inhibiting relative movement and preventing rattling of the door. Radial expansion may provide an interference fit. An electrical controller may be provided to sense when a vehicle door is closed and no handle actuation occurs to actuate the mechanism. The controller may prevent actuation when the vehicle is stationary. May be used on a vehicle sliding door or pivoting door.
