A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The floor module comprises a tile having an upper surface forming at least part of the floor, and a frame 10 for locating the tile in position when the floor is in use. The tile and frame are releasably couplable via an attachment means 12, 14 so removal of the tile from the frame is permitted. The attachment means may secure a centre region of the tile to the frame. Secondary attachment means may be located proximal a perimeter of the tile. The attachment means may comprise a threaded thumb screw received in a recess or aperture in the tile. The tile may be laminar having an acrylic floor substrate as the upper surface, and a backing layer. The frame may comprise connection means 22 for releasably coupling adjacent modules together. The modules may be quadrilateral such as rectangular or square. The frame may comprise support battens 32 located on its lower surface, the attachment means located such that when a pair of modules are stacked frame to frame the attachment means are offset from the support battens. Also claimed is a method of replacing one of the tiles within the frame. The floor modules may be used as a portable dance floor.
