A Barrier system for blocking a passageway and a method of blocking a passageway
A barrier system 100 for blocking a passageway comprises first and second spaced apart upright floor mounts 110, 120. A blocking arm 130 is pivotally connected to the first upright whilst the second upright has a receiving section 123 for receiving the blocking arm. The blocking arm is extendable from a contracted configuration to an extended configuration. When in the extended configuration the blocking arm is configured to be received in the receiving section, which includes a locking mechanism 123a, 123a’ to lock the blocking arm to the second upright. The blocking arm may comprise first and second tubular telescopic elements 131a, 131b. The receiving section may define an opening for receiving the blocking arm by a generally horizontal movement of at least part of the blocking arm. The blocking arm may comprise a biasing element 133 such as a pressurised piston or a spring to bias the blocking arm away from a neutral pivot angle. A pivot pin for pivotally connecting the arm to the first upright may be enclosed by outer plates. Also claimed is a method of blocking a passageway using a blocking arm.
