The intumescent fire barrier 300 comprises a base strip 301 and secondary strip 302 both of intumescent material, wherein the strips are attached with the secondary strip extending along the base strip to form a lengthwise extending flap. The strips may be flexible or rigid and may be rolled up for storage. The strips may be attached by a hinged connection. The base strip may comprise a groove into which the secondary strip is fitted. Also claimed is a structure comprising a party wall, a roof covering and an intumescent fire barrier, wherein the barrier is fitted to the wall and positioned between the top of the wall and the roof covering. The roof covering may comprise a row of spaced roof battens with the secondary strip of the barrier positioned between them to form a divider. The barrier may be fitted to the top of the party wall to form a laminar capping.
