Self-cleaning green roof device
A green roof system comprising an uppermost vegetable layer 1 above a substrate layer 2, above a geotextile layer 3 having a perforated plate, above a drainage layer 4, above a waterproof layer 5, the system having first 6 and second 7 water storage tanks on one side of the system, wherein the vegetable layer has a spill valve 9 and outlet valve 12 respectively on either side, the substate layer comprises substrate granules or modified soil or light media, and is for providing nutrition to the vegetable, the drainage layer has a two-way valve 10 and an outlet valve 8 respectively on either side, the first water storage tank having a water level gauge, the second tank having a boost pump, a lower part of the first tank having a two way valve 13 providing communication between the tanks, the first tank also having an inlet valve 6 for an external water source. A method of using the valve and pump to store rainwater and then periodically back flush up through the substrate to clean pollutants is also disclosed.
