Aircraft-cabin-trim panel, seat monument, and associated method
An aircraft cabin trim panel 10 has: a structural foam body 12, with opposing first and second surfaces and a first stiffness; plastic sheeting 14 covering the majority of the first surface, having a thickness less than 1.5mm. The majority of the second surface is exposed and has a number of elongate recesses, each with an elongate aluminium reinforcement 16, stiffer that the foam body, located in it. Each reinforcement has major surfaces perpendicular to the second surface, and a curved minor surface imparting non-flatness on the foam body when adhered to it. The first surface has an area of at least 0.18 m2 and a thickness between 6-12mm. The panel may be used in aircraft seat monuments. The panel may be formed by taking a foam body of the required dimensions; machining the recesses in the second surface; securing the plastics sheeting to the first surface; cutting reinforcements from an aluminium sheet and adhering them into the recesses. The location of each recess may be determined by analysing the foam body determining its second moment of area rigidity and choosing positions to improve the rigidity.
